32-mile Ghost Town Trail Challenge is this weekend

October 2024 · 1 minute read

This Saturday is the fourth annual Ghost Town Trail Challenge. Participants from all over will be coming to town to take on all 32 miles.

The challenge begins in Blairsville and goes all the way to Ebensburg. Participants can choose to either run or hike. Unlike a typical race, the goal of this hike is not to win, but to finish in one day. Caytlin Lusk, the program coordinator for Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority, says 354 people signed up, which is the highest number of participants yet.

"The ghost town trail is one of the top 10 trails in the United States actually, so it's really great to see different trail lovers come from all over the country. Just advocating for wellness, for outdoor adventure. Different things like that," said Lusk.

Along with the main hike, there is also a half challenge and a 7 1/2 mile family friendly hike. All proceeds from the challenge will go to the Friends of the Trails program, which maintains and expands the Cambria County Trails.

Today is the last day to sign up for the challenge. Registration can be found at this website.
