biography
Hugh Grant was born Hugh John Mungo Grant, second son of Fynvola Susan MacLean and Captain James Murray Grant, on 9 September 1960 in Hammersmith, London. His father was a British Army officer known to have served in the Seaforth Highlanders infantry regiment, while his mother was a state teacher, teaching Latin, French and music.
Grant received his primary education at Hogarth Primary School in Chiswick and St Peter’s Primary School in Hammersmith. He then attended the independent preparatory school Wetherby School before joining Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith on a scholarship. Here he played rugby, cricket and football. After graduating, Grant received the Galsworthy Scholarship to study English at New College, Oxford. While there he joined the Oxford University Dramatic Society and also got the chance to act in his first film. Privileged (1982), produced by the University Film Foundation.
After leaving school, Hugh Grant tried a number of jobs before being approached by a talent agent who saw his performance on Privileged. Grant initially turned down the agency because he wanted to go back to school, but after second thoughts he signed with the agent and had a role in the film The Bounty (1984), in which he ended up not acting because he didn’t have an actors’ union card. To get one, Grant performed at a local theater and appeared in numerous shows before appearing in television shows in 1985 and films a few years later.

Family – wife, children
Hugh Grant’s opinion on the establishment of The Marriage has been well documented by the tabloids in recent years. The actor famously said that he “doesn’t believe in marriage massively” and that the whole idea is “unromantic” because people aren’t meant to be in long, faithful relationships.
Knowing his opinion on the matter, it didn’t come as a surprise when it was reported that he had fathered multiple children with two different women during the same period. Grant had his first child, a daughter named Tabitha, in September 2011 with a Chinese woman named Tinglan Hong. Exactly one year later he had his second child, a son named John Mungo Grant with a Swedish woman named Anna Eberstein.
In 2013, Grant and Hong appeared to have gotten back together when they welcomed their second child, a son named Felix Grant. Two years later, he reunited with Eberstein in December 2015 to have their fourth child, whose name is unknown. The two stayed together and in early 2018 they welcomed their third child together.
A few months after welcoming his fifth child, Hugh Grant seemed to have changed his mind about marriage when he and Eberstein got engaged. The pair exchanged vows in front of close family at Chelsea Register Office at Old Town Hall on Kings Road, which is reported to be not far from where they live in west London. The ceremony was low-key and discreet, and the duo appeared to have dressed heavily for the occasion, as it was reported that Eberstein, who works as a television producer and retail director for fashion brand Ace & Me, wore a short white skirt and a smart-fitting blue shirt and espadrilles while her husband wore a navy suit.
Prostitute scandal
In June 1995, Hugh Grant was arrested by Los Angeles police officers for patronizing a prostitute and performing oral sex in a public place. When arraigned before a judge, he pleaded no contest and was fined $1,180. He was put on a two-year probation and assigned to complete an AIDS education program.
