Illegal migrant tied up Wisconsin 12-year-old after paying for 'time alone,' police say

A Nicaraguan native who allegedly tied up and blindfolded a 12-year-old Wisconsin girl had paid the girl's mother to spend “time alone” with her, police told FOX11 News.

Police say they responded to a call in Oakfield, Wisconsin early Sunday morning after the girl knocked on a stranger’s door asking for help. The girl had escaped after the man, residing in the U.S. illegally, allegedly restrained her, police said.

Authorities suspect the victim’s mother received money from the illegal migrant in return for “time alone” together. Police arrested the migrant, who has used multiple aliases in the past, and took him to the Fond Du Lac County jail where he awaits formal charges. The girl’s mother is also in custody.

“There are still a lot of details with the case, background information, follow-up interviews they're conducting, but there will be likely some significant charges that may include things like failure to protect a child, child trafficking of human trafficking component, some form of a sexual assault charge,” Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt told FOX11.

Officials are also investigating the migrant’s past, including how he managed to arrive in the Badger State.

What has transpired since October 2021 when he crossed the border illegally, to today's date or this past weekend's date, that's all being determined by the detectives. But we know he obviously landed in Fond du Lac County and resides here," Waldschmidt said.

Wisconsin lawmakers have previously sounded the alarm over migrants arriving in the state. State Sen. Duey Stroebel, R-Cederberg, in April decried Madison city officials after learning of a decision in the state’s capital to aid migrants with pandemic relief funds.

“Communities around this country are grappling with the consequences of the open border policies of the Biden/Harris administration,” Sen. Stroebel wrote. “The decision to use pandemic relief money to assist illegal immigrants at the expense of Wisconsinites reveals the out of touch priorities of Madison politicians.”
