Legoland Looks For Master Builder With 'Brick Factor'

Lego fans from around the tri-state area will be in Yonkers next weekend to take part in a one-of-a-kind job audition to find Legoland Discovery Center Westchester’s “Master Model Builder.”

The two-day interview, dubbed “Brick Factor,” will pit job hopefuls against one another in series of fast paced, time-limited challenges that test their Lego building skills.

The winner will be named Master Model Builder and land a salaried position that includes responsibilities like developing new features or exhibitions and building new models when Legoland opens in Ridge Hill in the spring of 2013.

“It really is a unique job opportunity and job interview,” Mendy Rose, a marketing manager for Legoland, said earlier this year in video created during a “Brick Factor” competition in Kansas City.

The preliminary round of the competition will being 10:30 a.m., Nov. 17, at Westchester's Ridge Hill, on Rebel Street between L.L. Bean and Texas De Brazil.

At "Brick Factor" in Kansas City this year, more than 170 builders tested their skills in day one of the competition.

Those who are up to the challenge in Yonkers will be greeted by millions of plastic, toy bricks with which they must create various Lego models in a series of challenges.

Models will be judged by panel of judges and the top builders will move onto the final round of the competition, set for Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.

Following that challenge, and a series of one-on-one interviews with Lego executives, one candidate will be named the winner of the competition and awarded with a full-time position and title of Legoland Discovery Center Westchester Master Model Builder.

The goal is to find the most skilled and creative model builder for what executives say is one of the most important positions at Legoland.

“The master model builder is the person who is the face and force of the Legoland Discovery Center,” Rose said in the video. “They are the person who takes the Lego and makes magic with them.”

Brick Factor is free to attend and the public is invited to watch the competition. For more details, visit Legoland’s Facebook page.
