PUNXSUTAWNEY - Scott Anthony, owner of Punxsy Pizza, took part in the "World's Longest Pizza" event Saturday at Auto Club Speedway in California.
Anthony was the only pizza chef from Pennsylvania to help create the 1.3 mile-long pizza that broke the Guinness World Record.
The finished pizza stretched 6,333 feet, used 8,000 pounds of dough, 6,000 pounds of sauce and 5,600 pounds of cheese.
The previous record of 6,082 feet was made in Naples, Italy in 2016.
"It was a personal satisfaction that we worked together so well as a team," Anthony said. "There were more than 50 pizza chefs who are use to being the boss in their own business, now being the workers. To be able to take direction, put our egos aside and work together as a team was a really great accomplishment."
Anthony said the team faced several challenges including California's health codes and making sure the pizza was edible.
"When the oven finally got done, we were all just so excited," Anthony said. "We were high-fiving people with sauce on our hands and there was sauce splashing everywhere. The guys that had a little bit of extra cheese were using that as confetti."
Anthony said he was honored and proud to represent his own pizzeria, Punxsutawney and Pennsylvania.
All the pizza was donated to local homeless shelters and non-profit organizations.
