CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKRC) - A Spirit and a Delta aircraft collided at an airport in Ohio.
It happened around 8 p.m. on Sunday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland.
According to WEWS-TV, citing a Spirit Airlines spokesperson, Spirit Airlines flight 655 was in the process of boarding at a gate when the wing tip of Delta Air Lines Flight DL2577 made contact with the aircraft.
"Spirit Airlines flight 655 (CLE-LAX) was parked at the gate in Cleveland (CLE) and in the process of boarding when the wing tip of another airline’s aircraft made contact with our aircraft. Our Guests deplaned normally through the jet bridge, and no injuries to Spirit Guests or Team Members were reported. Safety is our top priority, and the aircraft was removed from service to be thoroughly inspected by our maintenance team. We are re-accommodating our Guests with alternate travel arrangements as quickly as possible," Spirit Airlines said in a statement issued to WEWS.
Per the station, the Spirit Airlines plane was removed from service for examination, with the company telling WEWS that the company was working on alternative arrangements for affected guests. Delta Air Lines told the station that the flight was delayed for four hours while it worked to re-accommodate guests on a different plane.
"Delta teams are working to re-accommodate customers to their final destination to Atlanta tonight after the wingtip from Delta flight DL2577 made contact with a parked aircraft at CLE. We apologize for any inconvenience caused," Delta wrote in a statement to WEWS.
Both airlines confirmed that no injuries were reported, per the station.
