Tennis Channel's "T2" network will dedicate Tuesdays to women's tennis starting in early June, a spokesperson told The National Desk today.

Beginning on June 11, T2 will spend every Tuesday exclusively broadcasting Women's Tennis Association matches. Tennis Channel says the decision keeps the network "ahead of the curve" in showcasing women's competition.

We’re really excited to further commit to the best women’s tennis players in the world and their fans with a day of matches dedicated exclusively to them on T2 every week, completely free," Irv Schulman, senior vice president of Sinclair Sports Group, said.

T2 is available on a variety of free streaming services, including Amazon Freevee, Roku and Samsung TV Plus. The channel is also carried on several subscription TV platforms, such as YouTube TV and Fubo.

Tennis Channel reports that viewership between men's and women's matches is almost even at 50% each, according to the latest ratings. Tennis Channel's dedication to women's competition dates back to the network's launch in 2003, when its first televised match featured phenom Venus Williams.

The list of women who were pioneers in both tennis and athletics is long – Althea Gibson, Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, and Venus and Serena Williams, to name a few – and they helped to build the foundation for the recognition of other women’s sports over the years," Schulman added.

Both Tennis Channel and T2 will continue to show high-level men's and women's matches on all other days.

Editor's Note: This station and Tennis Channel are both subsidiaries of Sinclair, Inc.
